Welcome to Birth Angel Doula Services! My name is Heather McInally and I live in a suburb of Denver Colorado with my husband and two little girls. I am formally trained and certified through CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association). I have found my calling in being a doula and feel so privileged to be able to support parents as they bring their little angels into the world.
I have experienced first-hand the difference having a doula-attended birth can make. As I anticipated the birth of my first daughter in 2004, I thought I was prepared and tough enough to go natural. I was not however, informed of all the decisions I would be faced with throughout my pregnancy, labor and birth. In the end, I felt cheated out of my informed consent, not knowing the pros/cons and alternatives to the interventions, and full of fear. It was not a gentle or peaceful birth, and the recovery took many months.
Before the birth of my second baby in 2006, I knew I needed to do things drastically different. I found a midwife, hired a doula, and took HypnoBirthing classes. This birth was peaceful, gentle, easy, so satisfying! My doula reminded me of the choices that were mine to make, informing me of the pros and cons and letting ME choose, instead of being at the mercy of the hospital staff. She helped me prepare my body for birth with techniques that would save me from a long labor and preventable complications. I then realized how under-prepared I was with my first birth and that most of that trauma could have been avoided had I used a trained labor companion. I have been passionate since then, about helping women have empowering, gentle births, free of fear.
As an educated advocate, I can help the mother and her partner make informed choices and become active birth participants. I am passionate about bringing babies into this world as gently as possible and understand that this experience forever changes a woman, and shapes the baby’s life. It will be my great privilege to help you achieve your birth goals, whatever they might be, and to honor your choices, as we understand that every labor and birth is unique. I am a calm and reassuring presence that can help bring peace to any birthing situation, whether it was your ideal scenario, or a special circumstance that arises. Whether it’s what I do behind the scenes, a relaxing massage, suggesting a position that turns your baby, or just my reassuring words and hands that show you that I believe in you, I hope I can be that birth angel.
